Paul Marioni, one of the founding members of the American Studio Glass movement, creates modernist pieces that incorporate humor, images of taboo sexuality, genre figures, tribal masks, photographs, and visual puns. Paul created "Jaguar Vase" in 1992, reflecting his fascination with pre-Columbian art - a subject he fell in love with during one of his early trips to Mexico.  The jaguar is a prominant figure in pre-Columbian art, where it represents "courage" - a favorite theme of Marioni's, who now resides permanently in Guanajuato, Mexico.

"Jaguar Vase" has been in a private collection since 1992. A companion piece is held in a major NW corporate art collection. This piece is signed and dated by the artist, and is accompanied by a COA and provenance.
