Phenomenal dye on silk painting of Kwakiutl Indian mask - "Born-To-Be-Head-Of-The-World" by Northwest Artist Anne Anderson.

Anne's process is a combination of wax, silk, dye, and steam. Her compositions are first traced onto the silk with melted beeswax. The wax line saturates the silk and makes a resist line which keeps the colors separated. She then paints dye on the silk, completing the painting with a palette of dyes she has created.  The process is extremely difficult to control and mistakes cannot be erased or covered up.  After the painting is finished, the piece is steamed in a large kettle for an hour.  Steam sets the dye and the painting is now light - and colorfast.  At this point, the painting is thoroughly washed, dried, and taken to the dry cleaners to remove any excess wax.

This gorgeous piece measures 43" x 63" and is mounted on Sintra for lightweight hanging. Makes an impressive statement in any home, office or restaurant.
